Laws Reporting began in Florida’s courts. In 1976, when Miami-Dade County moved from individual court reporters to contracting firms, Paula Laws built one. Within a month, she expanded from one court to seven; within a few years, the firm covered more than twenty. Paula went on to serve as one of her circuit’s Official Court Reporters and as president of both the Florida Court Reporters Association and the National Court Reporters Association. 50 years later, Laws Reporting remains family owned and led by Paula and her daughter, COO Marti Sutherland-Vidal. Based in South Florida, the firm serves law firms, businesses, state agencies, and courts throughout Florida, including ongoing work in Tallahassee. Laws has also served clients across the United States and in other countries. Through a network of vetted court reporting agencies, the firm can coordinate coverage nationwide and beyond, while its primary focus remains Florida. The firm’s roots are in court and government reporting, and its work extends across civil litigation. Laws supports clients from depositions and hearings through trial and appeal. The team understands that a transcript may be read by an appellate panel years later, and brings that same care to every record. Client relationships are at the heart of Laws Reporting. Clients have direct access to ownership. Paula and Marti stay involved, make themselves available, and work with clients to solve problems when they arise. That personal accountability has been part of Laws from the beginning.

Who you reach
Our members practice in and around Florida state government. They work at the Department of Legal Affairs, the Division of Administrative Hearings, the Department of Management Services, the Public Service Commission, DBPR, DCF, and dozens of other agencies, alongside private practitioners whose work brings them before those same agencies.
They gather monthly for CLE, twice a year for signature events, and throughout the year for happy hours, charity drives, and the Bench & Bar Holiday Party.
Government attorneys retain court reporters, engage outside counsel, refer matters, and move between public service and private practice across long careers. The senior agency lawyer in our room this year is a firm's lateral hire the next.
A sponsorship reaches that audience repeatedly, in a professional setting, with the association's endorsement behind it. That is a different thing from an ad.

Who are your members?
Attorneys practicing in Florida state and local government, plus private practitioners whose work brings them before state agencies. Most are based in Tallahassee, with growing statewide participation through virtual CLE.
Is my sponsorship tax deductible?
The FGBA is a nonprofit organization under section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions are not deductible as charitable contributions, though sponsorship payments may qualify as an ordinary and necessary business expense. Please consult your tax advisor.
When does the sponsorship year run?
July 1 through June 30, matching the term of our Executive Council. Sponsorships that begin mid-year are prorated.
Can we sponsor in kind rather than in cash?
Yes. Venue space, catering, printing, photography, and door prizes all count.

How do we pay?
